Knitting directions for the cigarette case

Knitting the Cigarette Box:

You’ll need four different colours:

Red C1 (I use the Red Heart brand because the yarn is cheap)
White C2 (Red Heart again)
Black C3 (Because this is only embroidered it doesn’t make a difference what brand)
Gold C4 (This is also only used for embroidery)

You’ll also need:

 Size 6 needles
A darning needle to embroider

To begin:

First knit the main section of the box:

CO11 (you should maintain 11 stitches on your needle at all times there is no increasing or decreasing in this pattern) and K1 row in C1
Row 2: K1, P1 in C1 switch to C2 and K7, switch to C1 and P1, K1
Row 3: K in C1
Row 4: begin pattern #1 read pattern from top to bottom for this section

K in stst on first and last stitches on wrong side rows K. Continue in this pattern throughout the main section of the box.

when you have finished pattern #1 K in stst C2 for 10 rows
K 1 row in C1
K3 rows in C2 (this will create the turn for the underside.
Begin pattern #2 and read the pattern from top to bottom.

Con’t in stst in C2 for 2 rows, then:
P 1 row
K 1 row
Switch to C1 for 1 row and continue in stst as front of box.
Change back to C2 for 10 rows of stst

Now begin pattern #1 again, but this time you will begin reading it from the bottom to the top.

Change to C1 and continue 1 row in C1
K2 in C1 K7 in C2 and K2 in C1
P 11 in C1 only
BO all stitches

Now you have the main body of the case.

Make two gussets:

Pick up and knit 9 in C2 and 6 in C1 along right top edge from where the box was cast on until the first turn (I’ve done this with double pointed needles because they are smaller and easier). See image below.

Continue in stst in this pattern of 9 C2 and 6 C1 for 3 rows. Then pick up 15 stitches on the other side of the box and begin a 3 needle bind off. You can decide which looks better for the box, but I like to bind off with right sides facing out. There are good directions for a 3 needle bind off on youtube.

Now you can do the same thing to the left side of the box.

Finishing:

You have finished the basic box, now you can sew the loose ends and embroider the box to your liking. Remember, once you have the basic box down you could do any type of box with any style that you would want. Remember to knit the cigarettes to go into the box as well.

Knitting the Cigarette:
You’ll need three different colours:
A grey for the ash (C1)
A white for the main section (C2)
A dirty yellow for the filter (C3)

You’ll also need:

Two Size 6 double pointed needles
A darning needle

To begin:

CO 4 or 5 stitches in C1 (whatever makes the most accurate cigarette circumference)

K 1 row

Change to C2 and slide the stitches you have knit to the opposite end of the double pointed needle. The working yarn is now at the left end of the needle while you will begin to work the right end of the needle. Bring the working yarn to the stitch at the very right of the needle and knit the row. This K row forms the beginning of an i cord.

K 5 or 6 rows of C2

Change to C3 and continue the i cord for 5 more rows.

BO all 5

Finishing:
Sew in the leftover string with your darning needle and knitter away.
